Always Be a Kind Mouse: USFCR Volunteers in the Holiday Season

The end of the year is a special time for many. When Thanksgiving comes along, we take time to reflect on what we have, what we’re thankful for, and why we should feel grateful. After that comes even more holidays, which no matter what you celebrate, solidify the bonds of family, friendship, and community. It’s a season marked by the virtue of giving and supporting others. That’s why at US Federal Contractor Registration, we’re proud to once again support the Kind Mouse.

Hunger in America

For many of us, a well-stocked fridge or pantry is a given. When you go home from work, you don’t have to give a second thought if you will have dinner tonight. Although it’s easy to overlook, that in itself is a privilege. According to No Kid Hungry, it is a privilege denied to over 13 million children in the United States. They live in what is known as “food insecure” households. These children live in homes which lack the financial resources to remain at an adequate level of food for the people living in their household. It is also estimated that 1 in 5 children will go hungry this year.

What It Means to Be a Kind Mouse

The Kind Mouse is a charity founded by Gina Wilkens who saw firsthand of the effect the Great Recession had on many families. Their mission is to is to assist families in transition and their chronically hungry children. They do this through efforts such as food drives, purchasing food, and delivering food to schools. According to them, no hardworking individual should ever feel despair due to economic hardships beyond their control. They believe that everyone has a right to feel safe and secure in their own home and that no one should ever go hungry.

Toward the end of November and the beginning of December 2018, US Federal Contractor Registration helped the charity by volunteering in several waves. USFCR team members partook in the Mouse Nibbles program. This program helps the hungriest of students in the Tampa Bay area by providing them with bags non-perishable food to sustain them over the weekend.

In 2018, the Kind Mouse has…

  • Distributed 76,304 lbs of food
  • Served 63,483 meals
  • Provided 18,642 Mouse Nibbles
  • Received the help of 12,000 volunteers

Reach Out Your Hand

It can be easy to get caught up in the excitement of the holiday season. There’s a lot of traveling, catching up with family, and some hot-ticket item manages to make it on everyone’s list. However, the greatest reward of all, no matter what time of the year, is helping others. It’s about taking action in order to make a significant positive impact in another person’s life.  At US Federal Contractor Registration, we’re always glad when we can give a hand to such a great cause. We hope that if you’re reading this that you take some time to give back this year, or even inspire others to join you in doing so.
