USFCR Gives Back

US Federal Contractor Registration’s CEO and Chairman, Eric Knellinger, launched his second successful scholarship campaign before the start of the 2018 spring semester. The scholarship program, dubbed the Eric Knellinger Presidential Scholarship, was awarded to three students this month after the company evaluated a handful of submissions and eliminating all but three. Each student received a scholarship for $1000 which they will be using towards books and other college expenses.

New Standards in Government Purchasing

On August 15, 2018, the Department of Defense made changes to how they will handle the purchasing of video surveillance cameras and commercial unmanned aerial systems (drones). The use of Government-wide Commercial Purchase Cards will now be prohibited from acquiring such items. For those unfamiliar, Government Purchase Cards (GPCs) are basically credit cards that Contracting Officers use for obtaining goods and services within the micro-purchase threshold.

The government has a website called FedBizOpps, where it posts all Federal procurement opportunities over opportunities with a value over $25,000. If you’re not following this website, you could be missing out on bid opportunities for your business. However, there is more to know about FedBizOpps than just creating a login. Even though they were unsuccessful in their first handful of bids, they continue to stay persistent which ended up paying out when they landed a subcontracting job.

Camp Redwood, Inc.

Founded in 1961, Camp Redwood is a children’s summer camp located in Walden, New York. This year not only marked their 57th season but their first government contract as well. The Stewart Air National Guard Base was looking for a camp to host an event for the children of the families serving there. Camp Redwood was the National Guard’s ideal candidate but, they weren’t registered in SAM. With help form USFCR, that all changed.

The Importance of Past Performance

Sometimes a government solicitation will require a contractor to submit a Past Performance Questionnaire. It’s a series of questions for contracting officers that the business has previously worked with. What’s asked on this survey varies from agency to agency. However, there is no requirement in Federal Acquisition Regulation for the contracting officer to complete this questionnaire. Can’t get it completed? Your offer will get denied. This is why building relationships is highly important in government contracting.
